Bawumia Counters Mahama's Call for Reset, Promises Upgrade for Ghana

2024-08-26  James

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has responded to the call made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who urged the electorate to vote for him to "reset" the country.

During the NDC’s manifesto launch, Mahama stressed the urgency for change, claiming that the country is "bleeding" and its "soul is crying for change." He positioned himself as the leader capable of resetting Ghana's trajectory.

However, in a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, Dr. Bawumia pushed back against this narrative, asserting that Ghana requires an "upgrade" rather than a reset. He presented his vision for the nation, outlining 14 key commitments that he plans to implement if elected in the 2024 elections.

I represent the future, Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset," Dr. Bawumia stated. He emphasized his focus on sustaining and expanding the nation's rebounding economy, creating new jobs, implementing wide-ranging tax reforms, and transforming Ghana into a world-class digital economy.

Among his commitments, Dr. Bawumia also pledged to reduce the cost of living, expand public infrastructure, improve healthcare, implement affirmative action for girls and women, provide good governance, and enhance educational opportunities for all. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of protecting Ghana's borders and ensuring the safety of its neighborhoods.

The contrasting visions of the two major candidates are expected to play a central role in the upcoming 2024 elections as Ghanaians weigh the future direction of their country.
