Dolly Parton, the legendary singer-songwriter, actress, and philanthropist, has been a cultural icon for over seven decades. 

Known for her unmistakable voice, groundbreaking songs, and vibrant personality, Parton’s journey from a humble upbringing in rural Tennessee to global stardom is nothing short of extraordinary.

Born on January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, Dolly Rebecca Parton grew up in a modest household as the fourth of 12 children. Her father, Robert Lee Parton, was a sharecropper, and her mother, Avie Lee Owens Parton, was a homemaker.

Music was deeply ingrained in their family life, with church being a primary source of inspiration for young Dolly. She began writing songs before she could even read and received her first guitar as a gift from a relative.

In 1986, she launched Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, providing jobs and entertainment in her home state. Dollywood has since expanded to include a waterpark, dinner shows, and a luxury resort, drawing millions of visitors annually.

Parton’s philanthropy is as legendary as her music. In 1995, she founded the Imagination Library, a literacy program that donates over 10 million books annually to children worldwide. 

She also raised $12.5 million for wildfire relief in Tennessee and contributed $1 million to COVID-19 vaccine research, which aided the development of the Moderna vaccine.

At 78, Dolly Parton shows no signs of slowing down. Her latest album, Smoky Mountain DNA — Family, Faith & Fables, set for release on November 15, 2024, explores her family heritage through 37 tracks featuring collaborations with relatives. In 2022, she made history with Rockstar, her first rock album, earning widespread acclaim.

In addition to her music, Dolly’s life story is being adapted into a Broadway musical titled Hello, I’m Dolly, slated for a 2026 debut. The production will feature her timeless hits and new original songs.
