Today marks the retirement of the esteemed Supreme Court Justice, Her Ladyship Mariama Owusu J.S.C., known for her exceptional poise, wisdom, and integrity.
Justice Owusu, who hails from Beposo in the Ashanti Region, brings to a close a distinguished 34-year career in the judiciary.
Her remarkable journey began in 1990 as a district magistrate, quickly rising through the ranks to become a circuit court judge in 1992, and later a High Court judge in 2000.
Justice Owusu's dedication and expertise earned her the position of supervising High Court judge for Sunyani from 2003 to 2005.
By 2006, she was appointed a Justice of the Court of Appeal, and in 2019, she ascended to the Supreme Court, alongside her peers Lovelace-Johnson J.S.C and Torkornoo J.S.C, the current Chief Justice.
Justice Owusu's legal education began at T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary School, Kumasi (T.I. Amass), followed by her call to the Bar in 1981. She honed her skills as a private practitioner with Totoe Legal Services before embarking on her judicial career.
Her contributions to the judiciary extend beyond her courtroom duties, as she has been an active member and president of the Ghana chapter of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) from 2014 to 2018.
Additionally, she served on the Ethics Committee and the Performing Assets Committee of the Judicial Service from 2010 to 2014.
