Kofi Bentil, a Ghanaian lawyer, lecturer, and the Senior Vice President of Of Imani Ghana, has shared his thoughts on the political battles that have become one of the most debated conversations in Ghana.
Ghanaians in general have complained bitterly about the current governance, highlighting the high cost of living and bitterly complaining about the e-levy taxes that seem to take away the little they have.
In recent times, the country has been thrown into chaos as the citizens have started sharing their displeasure over galamsey. This illegal mining practice has destroyed almost all the water bodies in Ghana. Many individual youths have gone out to demonstrate over this issue, as some of them were sent to the police cells without bail until recently.
Other bodies, such as UTAG and organized labor, have confirmed their days of strike as the government refused to do anything about their demands regarding galamsey.
Talking on Agenda, a talk show aired on TV3, Lawyer Kofi Bentil spoke about how the NDC, which is the opponent party in Ghana, cannot be trusted when it comes to galamsey.
According to him, Galamsey started when NDC was in power, and they could not find a better solution to curb the cancer, and now NPP has made it worse.
He further explained that if NPP has worsened the case, then NDC cannot be brought back into power if we expect them to come and curb the problems of Galamsey.
He said: "The government that was not able to solve it when it was as bad as it is now should not be the one we bring back when it is worse today."
Many Ghanaians have taken to X formerly Twitter to share their displeasure regarding his comment.
"Between bad and worse, Kofi Bentil is telling us to choose worse. A very interesting argument. Kofi is beginning to lose his sense."
A user replied after TV3 posted this part of the interview on the platform.
“As much as galamsey has taken over all our water bodies and destroyed most of our lands, it is a problem that affects us all and this is where political differences shouldn't hinder us from seeing exactly what the problem is.” Another user wrote.
