Apuri Emmanuella, Research Assistant at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has shown a concern on the current state of the Ghanaian water bodies being affected by the illegal mining activities, popularly known as Galamsey.
“The fight against Galamsey is beyond politics. Maybe you don't know about the long term effect of the heavy metals such as Mercury, cyanide in our body used by galamseyers.
The worst form and long term effect is alteration of your Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) which is your genetic makeup.
Ghana is a democratic country but why do we see leaders exhibit kakistocratic governance?
In the last United Nations General Assembly, António Guterres said “ the level of impunity in the world is politically indefensible and morally intolerable” hence ‘admonishing world leaders to move our world towards less impunity and more accountability, less inequality and more justice and less uncertainty and more opportunity.
" It's time now or never for leaders to put their people first especially when issues of national emergencies will affect citizens in the long run. I unapologetically spoke against hashtag # galamsey what about you?”
